Hogwarts Legacy is the highly anticipated action-RPG game by Harry Potter movie fans. However, some users have experienced issues with stuttering and FPS drops while playing games. Thankfully, there is a Mod available called Ascendio that can help fix this problem.

Explanation of Ascendio

Ascendio is a set of custom engine parameters Unreal Engine 4.27.2 that aims to improve the stuttering and FPS drops that occur in games. This mod implements several tweaks to the engine such as forcing the CPU to communicate with the GPU and sync, forcing the finalization of stuck frames, enabling texture streaming, and a few other tweaks. These adjustments are selected during Mod installation, so the result really depends on your installation settings.However, some of the performance issues are actually backend bugs in the implementation of some of the game’s core functions. One of these bugs is related to NPC generation (which is likely related to a chunk loading issue). The bug requires more work to properly address and Avalanche will likely fix it sooner than this Mod.

This mod “helps” reduce stuttering, especially when RT(Ray Tracing) is turned off, but doesn’t completely fix it. It is hoped that this will make the gaming experience smoother until the development team releases the appropriate patch.This mod does not work on all PCs. A number of patches have been implemented to help different types of users, but the impact of these patches (and whether they actually work or not) really depends on your PC specs. It might work on the RTX 3070, but not on the RTX 3080. The number of tests it can run is very limited, as it doesn’t have 100 PCs with different GPU/CPU/RAM settings to test the Mod in different environments. Download the Mod and try it if it works. If not, you can always delete it.

- Make sure you have run the game at least once so that the files can be generated.

- Download Ascendio Installer from the file tab.

- Run the installer and choose your custom settings. (the installer won’t work if you don’t have admin rights on the PC. If installation fails, try manual patching, in an optional file).

- (If the installer doesn’t find the appdata folder automatically, you’ll have to locate the “Engine.ini” file manually).

- Be careful, only FPS Hotfix “Lite” is compatible with ray tracing. Other installation options cannot be used with this feature and will cause performance issues if you enable ray tracing and FPS Hotfix.

- If you experience large frame drops at all settings, you can try disabling GPU Scheduling, as this may fix the problem in some cases.

After clicking “uninstall”, a pop-up window will appear informing you that the uninstall process was successful. After that, the installer application will close after pressing the “ok” button. Apart from that, users can also remove the Mod manually by deleting the “engine.ini” file in the “%localappdata%/HogwartsLegacy/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor” directory.
