Original Author of The Witcher Says Netflix "Never Listened" to His Feedback

Andrzej Sapkowski is the author of various The Witcher novels, which ultimately also became the inspiration for the birth of the game made by CD Projekt Red and also the adaptation of the Netflix TV series. Unfortunately, even though Sapkowski is the original writer, that doesn't mean the streaming service wants to listen to his input.

While attending the Vienna Comic Con, Sapkowski was asked about several adaptations of the original work. When talking to Cerealkillers, the author said that every visual adaptation of The Witcher series felt very "strange" to look at, because as the original author he could only use words to describe.

"My raw material when I work is just letters. I don't depict pictures. I don't see any pictures. I use letters only because I know that my readers will see only letters in the book, not pictures. So I have to work with letters to create the reader imagines the image, not the other way around…so every adaptation is visual, so it's quite strange to me," Sapkowski explained.

Sapkowski said that he saw other people's interpretations of The Witcher and commented "Oh, this is how they imagined it. Interesting." He adds that sometimes this is a welcome surprise, with a "sympathetic" impression of his work. However, sometimes, "no," he said, although the author did not elaborate on this.

Later in the interview, the conversation turned specifically towards the Netflix series, and Sapkowski's visit to the set. While he praised the set specifically, calling it "amazing," he also noted that Netflix never listened to the feedback he gave.

"Maybe, I gave them some ideas, but they never listened to me," he said, before laughing and looking away from the camera.

The sentence spoken by Sapkowski is very interesting, considering that there is consideration of Henry Cavill's recent departure from Netflix's The Witcher series.

Although the actor who played Geralt of Rivia for the first three seasons has not publicly stated why he decided to leave the show, many suspect that he was dissatisfied with the direction Netflix was taking, with the production team straying too far from the source material.

In the past, the actor has openly expressed his desire to create his version of a true Geralt with the books. Her co-star, Freya Allan, who plays Ciri, once even called it the "Witcher bible".
